Bulk Email Guidelines
Whilst we do allow low-volume mailing lists on our servers, we do ask that users adhere to the following guidelines
when sending out mailing lists or other bulk mailings.
- only low volume mailing lists are permitted
- all subscribers must be opted in, preferably doubt opt-in
- No purchased lists, 'safe lists' or third party lists
- every email must contain clear unsubscription instructions
- all emails must contact a statement at the top explaining why the recipient is getting the email, for example, "You
are receiving this email because you subscribed to our mailing list through our website at mysite.com / you purchased a
product from myshop in April 2005 and agreed to receive email from us about future products."
- mailings must not be sent all at once, batch sending must be used
- no more than 200 emails per hour
- must be sent outside of normal UK working hours, preferably between the hours of midnight and 6AM
- mailing scripts must be correctly configured to return bounces to the user. If we receive an unacceptable number of
bounces due to a misconfigured script, we may disable your script or request that you change to one that is more configurable
- if sending from PHP, you must set the valid return path by passing "-fyour@address" as the fifth parameter to the PHP 'mail' command
- scripts found to be using too many resources, whether because of poor coding or large mailings or something else, may
be disabled without prior notice if we deem it necessary to the stability of the server
Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in access to your site being restricted and/or suspension of the account. If you have
any questions about these guidelines, please contact us via the helpdesk at http://helpdesk.sonnetuk.info/
